Happy New Year! Call for volunteers for Last Week in Denmark!
Special edition for recruitment!
Happy New Year!
We hope you had a fantastic winter break (we definitely did!) and are feeling ready to tackle the opportunities and challenges 2025 has in store. Thank you for being part of the Last Week in Denmark family—some of you have been with us since the very beginning, back when this newsletter first launched on LinkedIn. Now, as we kick off our fifth year, we’re hitting an incredible milestone worth celebrating. And what better way to mark the occasion than with a “birthday party” for our media project—a chance to celebrate this achievement together!
When? Sometime in May or June. Where? Either Aalborg or Copenhagen. Aalborg is home to our headquarters, but Copenhagen is where most of our volunteers and subscribers live. The final decision will also depend on the venues we can find—and, of course, your input!
We’ll co-create this event together over the coming months, with every major decision up for a vote. After all, what better way to celebrate than by practicing a little democracy? (Especially with Denmark’s local and regional elections coming up this November!). Let’s make this celebration truly ours. Stay tuned for updates and voting polls! 🎉
When is the newsletter back? Next Sunday, at midday, January 12.
When is the podcast back? In two Sundays, at midday, January 19. We have a new format for the podcast (audio only) and multiple co-hosts to entertain you every week.
Call for volunteers (Deadline January 12)

Open positions
Podcast team
We are looking for an audio editor and a marketing specialist to join our team. If interested, send a mail to lastweekdk@gmail.com
Audio editor: We need someone that can combine two tracks from Audacity (individually recorded by co-hosts) and add our pre-made intro to it on Saturdays. We are talking about 1-2 hours to do basic editing like syncing the tracks, balancing volume, reducing noise, and adding the intro.
Marketing specialist: We need someone that can join our producer (Joan Ang) with the promotion of the podcast. We are talking about 2-3 hours weekly on Sunday / Monday.
English newsletter team
We are looking for original content writers for a monthly column (500–600 words) that is published entirely in the newsletter. The themes are pre-established, so if you’re interested and can write about any of the four topics, send an email to lastweekdk@gmail.com with a writing sample.
Topics
Danish values - cultural principles and societal norms that define life in Denmark.
Lessons from Danish history - events, people, and cultural moments that have shaped Denmark over the centuries.
Democracy in Danish life - explore how democratic principles permeate not just Denmark’s political system but also its culture, institutions, and daily life.
Quirky Denmark - a lighthearted column revealing the oddities and surprises of Danish life.
Columns and Reporters teams
Want to join our team of reporters? We’re looking for passionate writers fluent in English with an engaging style who can commit to writing one article per month (600–2000 words) on topics relevant to internationals living in Denmark. Whether reporting on current events, sharing unique perspectives, or pitching your own ideas, your work should prioritize fairness and positivity while resonating with the international community. If you’re organized, meet deadlines, and enjoy working remotely, we’d love to hear from you!
Want to join our team of columnists? In addition to the above criteria, we are particularly looking for columnists to enhance our existing team who can offer an ongoing perspective on:
Settling in Denmark as a non-EU or EU citizen
Being a successful entrepreneur in Denmark
Seeking or recently being granted citizenship in Denmark
Being a volunteer in Denmark
Arts, travel and culture in Denmark
In return, we offer a large and growing readership (30k+ across our Substack editions, website, and social media, with notable growth in 2024), the chance to be part of a passionate and fun team, and the opportunity to give back to Denmark's international community while making a real difference. You'll also enjoy fantastic networking opportunities both online and in person, and we’re introducing commissioned articles for which existing contributors can bid.
If this sounds like you, send an email to our lead for reporters and columnists, Ali Lewis, at alilewisstrevens@gmail.com
A brief statement about you and why you want to be part of the Last Week in Denmark team.
A brief sample of your writing in English. This doesn’t have to be a published or very recent piece. It’s just to give us a flavor of the way you write.
If you’re applying to be a columnist, give some detail about your intended column.
Language newsletter edition teams
If you want to join the Romanian, Polish, Spanish, Turkish, Italian, German, and Hungarian teams, complete your interest on this Google form, and you will be contacted by the team leads. We are talking about a couple of hours on weekends.
Positions
Translator: from English to your native language. We are looking for people who can interpret and adapt the text rather than translate word-by-word.

Curator: finding events and other information that concern your community. Someone that is connected to the community would be ideal.
The next language edition we will publish is Ukrainian. For more language editions, we will gauge interest in the following months.
Social media teams
If you want to join the Facebook, Instagram, or LinkedIn teams, reach out to the team leads via DMs on the respective page. Specify what role you are interested in and why you would be a good fit.
Positions
Content creator: Create graphics, photos, videos, and written posts. Develop content ideas that resonate with your audience.
Community manager: Run interactive features like polls, Q&A sessions, and contests. Respond to comments, messages, and questions in a timely manner. Manage a social media group dedicated for subscribers.
Partnership manager: Identify potential partners for cross-promotion or co-branded content. Leverage partnerships to grow audience and credibility.
Looking forward to your interest in joining our 100+ volunteer community. See you next week!
